Ear Candling

This treatment is also known as Thermo-Auricular Therapy and evidence has shown that the Egyptians referred to this treatment in the Orient parchment scrolls. The most popular ear candles today are Hopi ear candles, which originate from the Hopi Indians.

The candles I use are 'Bio sun' manufactured, as these are CE registered and of a high standard. They are not the normal candle that most people recognise. They are long, thin tubes constructed out of a natural fabric and infused with aromatherapy oils and coated with a very thin film of bees wax. There is also a small filter to keep ear wax or condensate away from the ear.

The candles work in a similar way to a chimney. The candle is lit and the impurities are drawn to the surface by the airflow circulating in, around and out of the top of the candle. A mild suction may be felt as the heat from the released vapour gently massages the ear drum.

The client is at no risk from the candles as I cover the ear with tissue and then place my hands over the ear and side of the face. Should any ash ever fall (and it never has for me yet) it will fall on my hands only. A new candle is used for each ear and takes approximately 15 minutes to burn. I follow this up with a relaxing face massage.
